Ethereum wallet manifests these values by relinquishing control by a formalized central foundation. The only hierarchy is that of transparent meritocracy and mutual reputation. No backroom deals or behind-closed-doors unilateral decision making; just free and open discourse.

This means that you can use Bitcoin's native limited scripting capability to lock a bitcoin into a contract that is directly connected to an ethereum contract, which can then issue an ethereum based token that is guaranteed to be backed by bitcoin.

  • However, while using EtherCom, one needs to always be connected to the internet, but you need not worry as your private keys never leave your machine.

Ethereum is a decentralized platform that runs smart contracts: applications that run exactly as programmed without any possibility of downtime, censorship, fraud or third party interference. Ethereum is a continuation of the original Ethereum blockchain - the classic version preserving untampered history; free from external interference and subjective tampering of transactions.

The relay is under development and as implementations are tested and proved to be secure, we will list them here.

Everything exists on the online ledger called a “blockchain”. Your wallet will only interact with the blockchain, allowing you to easily send and receive digital coins and make transactions. To do this, your wallets will act as a safe with your private addresses secure inside and your public address available to everyone.

Use a Bitcoin relay to convert a 2-way peg: the bitcoin relay is a piece of code that allows you to sidechain a bitcoin into ethereum.

  • The keystore file is a slightly safer option whereby it is the private key that is encrypted with a strong password of your choosing (the password that you entered when you generate your wallet).

Let’s start with hardware wallets which as the name suggests are in tangible form. They are like your conventional, portable hard disk but designed for cryptocurrency. They are what we call cold wallets in this business.

  • Paper wallets: These wallets are pieces of paper with your private keys on them. These are extremely risky because if you lose this piece of paper, the chance of accessing your coins in the future is extremely slim. Goodbye mulah. Additionally, most paper wallet generation sites are actually phishing sites preying on novice crypto traders.

If you are on a private network (and if you just want to test the technology for free, you should) then any normal computer with a normal CPU will be able to run the network and earn test ether (ether that is only redeemable on the test network where it was generated) through mining.

Online wallets use cloud and can be accessed from anyplace. This does make them convenient but also increases the risk as they are going to store your private keys online.

ENS

The Ethereum Name Service is a distributed, open, and extensible naming system based on the Ethereum blockchain. Once you have a name, you can tell your friends to send ETH to mewtopia.eth instead of 0x4bbeEB066eD09B......

The ENS is only available on the ETH and Ropsten (Testnet) chains. You are currently on the {{ajaxReq.type}} chain.
Please use the node switcher in the upper right corner to select "ETH" or "Ropsten".

What is the process like?

+- 1. Preparation
  • Decide which account you wish to own the name & ensure you have multiple backups of that account.
  • Decide the maximum amount of ETH you are willing to pay for the name (your Bid Amount). Ensure that account has enough to cover your bid + 0.01 ETH for gas.
+- 2. Start an Auction / Place a Bid
  • Bidding period lasts 3 days (72 hours).
  • You will enter the name, Actual Bid Amount, Bid Mask, which is protected by a Secret Phrase.
  • This places your bid, but this information is kept secret until you reveal it.
+- 3. Reveal your Bid
  • **If you do not reveal your bid, you will not be refunded.**
  • Reveal Period lasts 2 days (48 hours).
  • You will unlock your account, enter the Bid Amount, and the Secret Phrase.
  • In the event that two parties bid exactly the same amount, the first bid revealed will win.
+- 4. Finalize the Auction
  • Once the auction has ended (after 5 days / 120 hours), the winner needs to finalize the auction in order to claim their new name.
  • The winner will be refunded the difference between their bid and the next-highest bid. If you are the only bidder, you will refunded all but 0.01 ETH.

Please try the above before relying on support for reveal issues as we are severely backlogged on support tickets. We're so sorry. :(
